10 More Films We’re Excited For in 2020
Two weeks ago we shared with you 10 films that we are excited for in 2020. Well, we couldn’t only leave it at 10 movies. Of course there are more than 10 films that are releasing in 2020 that we just can’t wait to see. Today, we’re sharing with you 10 more films that we’re excited to see in 2020.
First Cow - March 6, 2020
The trailer won me over to this film. The musing on the backstabbing nature of capitalism and exploitation of natural resources is set in the American west and promised to be quirky and thought provoking.
The Platform - March 20, 2020
This is a hyper indie film about a man in a prison where food is distributed on a platform in the middle of the floor. It looks to consider class and the volatility of life through a massive Science fiction metaphor. I would buy that for a dollar! Coming to Netflix on March 20th!
Falling - April 10, 2020
Viggo Mortensen directs a story of a father, whose mind is failing, and son on opposite sides of the political and social spectrum struggling to resolve their relationship when the son, played by Mortensen, brings his father from his rural home to live in California. This punches all of my boxes, ideological conflict, the rural vs city life, social issues, gender issues, dementia and family.
The Personal History of David Copperfield - May 8, 2020
This wry, comedic take of the Dickens classic with Dev Patel in the lead surrounded by an extraordinary gang of actors (Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi… Tilda Swinton) promises to take us on a wacky journey into some bizarre Victorian England. Written by the the guys who wrote HBO’s Succession and Directed by the mind behind VEEP. There is a lot of pedigree in this little film.
Wonder Woman 1984 - June 5, 2020
I struggle with the movies of the DC universe, but I loved the first 3/4 of the original Wonder Woman with its rag tag team of pulp fiction characters and the empowered Gal Gadot. I am willing to put this on my list. Who knows whether the DC execs can leave this movie alone and let it find its story, but I am excited for the ride.
In The Heights - June 26, 2020
I am not a fan of musicals, but In The Heights taps into critical issues of our nation in respect to immigration and racism. It questions how the rags to riches American myth can be brought to fruition with spectacular music and some really solid actors. Miranda can write and the movie looks expansive and full of spectacle even as it tells some very intimate stories.
Trial of the Chicago 7 - September 25, 2020
Alan Sorkin writes and directs the story of a a group of Vietnam protesters on trial. The story needs to be told, Sorkin certainly can write enlightened political drama and the cast is stellar.
The Eternals - November 6, 2020
I am not sure how Marvel will make this odd ball choice for their next phase work. The cast is fascinating but the comics are psychedelic, jammed full of characters and bigger than cosmic. I can’t image it working and yet I said that about Guardians and It is one of my favorite Marvel films, so this one is anticipated even if some of that anticipation is apprehension.
Godzilla vs Kong - November 18, 2020
I will never give up on or miss a Godzilla movie on the big screen!
Dune - December 18, 2020
One of my favorite novels which has been brought to screens twice to mixed result. Dune, a Galaxy spanning messianic masterwork of political science fiction, tells the story of the surviving members of a royal family usurped by a vulgar dynasty over the value of “SPICE” which can only be found on the planet DUNE. Denis Villeneuve will direct this monster of a story that we may finally have the technology to tell.
